URBAN MAZE

type: spatial installation
Concentrico Festival 2026

Urban Maze is an interactive spatial installation that challenges the idea of space as a fixed and navigable system. Instead of offering a stable layout, the maze continuously shifts through the actions of its visitors, where each movement alters possible paths for others. Orientation is never fully achieved; routes emerge and disappear, making every journey provisional and dependent on collective use.

The project positions ephemerality not as something temporary, but as a condition produced through interaction. Space is understood as relational and negotiated, shaped by coincidence, interference, and decision-making rather than predetermined design. Individual actions generate shared consequences, revealing how spatial experience is co-authored rather than passively consumed.

Referencing the historical logic of garden mazes, the work reinterprets a typology traditionally associated with control and permanence into one of instability and transformation. It shifts the maze from a symbol of ordered complexity into a dynamic system that resists resolution, where movement becomes a continuous process of recalibration.

Situated within an urban threshold, the installation disrupts habitual patterns of circulation and challenges the expectation of efficient navigation. It transforms a transitional site into a space of delay, encounter, and reorientation, where visitors become aware of their presence in relation to others. The project ultimately proposes space not as a container to be occupied, but as a condition that is continuously produced through interaction.
